This Week in Trailers: Spider-Man: Brand New Day; Dune: Part Three; Outcome; Star Wars

Let us wildly speculate/judge what the product is about from its trailers

As the dust settle on the Oscars (hope you made a killing at the office pool), we return to the wonderful world of movie trailers. This week, we have trailers for several existing IPs and some original ones. We start off with a banger of a trailer for a long-awaited sequel.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

While we wait for Avengers: Doomsday to come out at the end of the year, we have a preview of the next Spider-Man instalment. To save the world, Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) caused the world to forget that Peter Parker ever existed. We see the aftermath of Holland pining for the good old days as he watches his friends—Mary Jane (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon)—moved on with their lives without him. But Holland has to deal with a bigger problem as he undergoes a mutation.

Already, eagle-eyed viewers spotted several scenes that were inspired by the comic book. Jon Berenthal and Michael Mando return as the Punisher and the Scorpion. No word yet on whether we'd see Michael Keaton in this new instalment.

Dune: Part Three

It looks grand but I'd like to imagine that Timothée Chalamet looks morose in the trailer because he didn't get Best Actor at the Oscars.

Outcome

Outcome stars the likeable Keanu Reeves as an actor who got his life in order until he was blackmailed with a video that can scuttle his career. We don't know what sin Reeves' character committed but the trailer looks compelling.

Also, I highly suspect that Outcome is based on the time director and co-writer Jonah Hill was accused by his ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady for being emotionally abusive. I could be overreaching but this movie feels like a redemptive arc for HIll more than Reeves' character.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord

When news about this came out, I expected a live-action series but, you know what, I'll take whatever I can get after the premature cancellation of Star Wars: The Acolyte. The animated series picked up after The Clone Wars and Maul being stitched back together and going crazy, so it's great to see fan service being utilised in this manner. Also, I still can't get over Maul sounding like Peter Cushing.

This is a Gardening Show

Ah, yes. If a show has Zach Galifianakis in it, it's very likely, I will be tuning in and you should. Galifianakis, who is best known for The Hangover trilogy and this musical gem with Will Oldham. Not having read the synopsis, methinks this is about farming and sustainability in America. Riveting stuff, right? But if you add Zach Galifianakis to the mix, that could be something.

Wild Horse Nine

Reminiscent of Martin McDonagh's previous work, In Bruges, Wild Horse Nine sees two CIA agents (played by John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell) head to Easter Island on an assassination mission. It looks like a fun buddy cop assassins' movie, especially with some of McDonagh's acerbic exchanges.
