1. On the nights leading up to the wedding, I will hang from the groom’s bedroom door, and he will pretend not to notice me. But on the very last night, he will do little else but stare.

2. There will be tables littered with bowls of coagulated gravy and stray noodle strands splayed across white tablecloths. Celebration always leaves behind evidence.

3. The groom will hear the words "Congratulations" more times in a single afternoon than he has in the rest of his life combined.

4. A flower girl will trip on her own shoe. The two rounds of rehearsal, patient coaching, and the promise of a sweet treat afterwards—all of it will prove no match for an aisle with watchful eyes.

5. Every phone and camera in the room will rise and follow the bride as she walks down the aisle.

6. The song that will play is evidence that people love the idea of being loved, even when they’re no longer young and beautiful.

7. When it is time for the vows, the space will fall into silence. The groom’s words will stumble, just as the flower girl did, when he recites his promise of commitment.

8. The people with the greyest hair will cry the quietest.

9. I will finally brush against the bride's dress when the groom reaches to lift her veil before their kiss.

10. When they return home as man and wife, the groom will remove his clothes. But he will not hang me back up on his bedroom door. I will spend the night folded on his desk, carrying the memories of a day that belonged to someone else.
