The last time RIMOWA reimagined its signature aluminium suitcases, the result was the Original Cabin Optical—a visually disruptive limited-edition piece. This time, the brand has reached into its archives as inspiration for a refreshed take on its Classic line.

The RIMOWA Classic Aluminium Grid collection, as its name suggests, reconfigures the iconic grooves into a waffle-like grid that you highly likely not have seen before. The geometric interpretation takes its cues from the brand's hand-carry cases found in its archives and developed in 1969. Hence, this collection is limited to only 1,969 numbered pieces.

True to RIMOWA's craftsmanship, the grid pattern is embossed on the aluminium in a precise manner such that each square remains perfectly shaped even at the curves on the sides of each piece. The hardy aluminium is softened with the addition of the leather handles—typical of the Classic line—in the collection's blue hue that references a historic shade for the brand. The main interior of each piece is separated by a Flex Divider on each side that are also trimmed with the same blue-coloured leather. As a mark of the limited-edition nature of the collection, the interior of each piece is also fixed with a blue leather tag denoting its number in the series. Even the luggage tag that usually comes with every piece of RIMOWA suitcase is special for this particular collection—rendered in the same blue hue and featuring an archival logo.

Unlike the previous limited-edition aluminium collection, the Classic Aluminium Grid collection comes in more than one format. The smallest in the collection is the Hand-Carry Case (a nod to the collection's inspiration), followed by the Cabin-sized suitcase, and then there's the Trunk that'll be spacious enough for trips around a week's long.
