Renew, Reuse, Recycle with Prada Re-Nylon

Can one resist a capsule collection crafted from recyclable nylon rendered in eye-catching colours? We think not

Slightly over 40 years ago, Miuccia Prada introduced nylon as part of Prada’s offerings. It effectively changed the luxury game, elevating a material that was hardly seen as desirable into one that drew a cult following. The brand upped the ante in 2019 by introducing Prada Re-Nylon, a more sustainably crafted line that utilises ECONYL—nylon yarns created from discarded nylon collected globally, which are recycled and purified so that they can be continually recycled without quality loss. In short, a more circular fashion system.

Since then, Prada has reported significant contributions to its SEA BEYOND project. The Prada Group partnered with UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission for a project to raise awareness of ocean preservation and sustainability.

As of July 2023, one per cent of proceeds from the Prada Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND collection have gone to SEA BEYOND.

Its latest endeavour makes it easier to be part of a circular fashion system. The newest Prada Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND collection feels more considered, with a range of everyday items meant to complement any existing wardrobe. The five-piece capsule collection comprises a backpack, pouch, drawstring backpack, hooded jacket and a hat, of which a number of them are meant to be foldable in their own pouch. Expect the usual hues, including the iconic Prada black, amped up with more saturated colours, including emerald, celeste blue, orange, and yellow—each design was completely drenched for a cohesive look.

Considerations were made to ensure that each design will be completely recyclable at the end of its life. These include the material selection as well as how easy they will be disassembled. To uphold Prada’s commitment to transparency and traceability, each piece is also embedded with an NFC tag that brings owners to the Aura Consortium platform, where detailed information can be accessed. In addition, there’s a Digital Certificate of Ownership that also entitles you to complimentary repair services for two years.
