Esquire 10: The "Tubthumping" Edit

Unapologetic in aesthetics and spirit, these items are the new poison you never knew you wanted till now

1. Margherita necklace in yellow gold with citrine quartz and diamonds, DAMIANI

All one needs to complete any outfit is a single necklace, preferably dripping with diamonds. Damiani’s signature Margherita collection takes the form of a daisy that’s embellished with diamond petals surrounding a citrine quartz that glints in the light of the day. The sizing isn’t too audacious, but visually the impact is sufficient.

2. 01 Incolore lip balm, CELINE

Your next reach for a luxurious lip balm should be CELINE’s foray into lip care. The Le Rouge CELINE collection first launched with a satin lipstick and now includes a matte lip balm in a range of tints as well as a universal transparent lip balm. Yes, the formulation comprises 94 per cent natural origins, but have you looked at that faceted silver case? It’s pure luxe.

3. Vanac Automatic Watch SLA095J1, 41 X 45.1mm stainless steel case with leather strap, KING SEIKO

From the first instance, you’ll be taken by the green dial of this King Seiko Vanac timepiece that lends a classic, elegant air to it. And then, you’ll notice the clean, architectural form of the case that blends harmoniously with the leather strap. It’s an incredibly refined watch that leans into a Japanese gentleman aesthetic—and we’re definitely not mad at that at all.

4. Veneta bag, BOTTEGA VENETA

A bag so distinct that it’s been brought back from the archives. The simply named Veneta bag by Bottega Veneta is easily one of the House’s finest examples of craftsmanship. The Intrecciato technique is on full display on a supersized form, such that even if you’re unfamiliar with the bag's design, the iconic weaving is unmistakable.

5. Speedrock sneakers, PRADA

Prada’s mash of ugly-beauty has culminated in the Speedrock sneakers. Inspired by alpine footwear, the Speedrock adopts utilitarian codes—check out the use of cords as laces—that are combined with leather trims to create a sneaker that’s a curious combination of style and comfort. This is your new pair of indispensable city runners.

6. Tomori Walk shoes, LORO PIANA

Before you chastise us for highlighting footwear that resemble a pair of bedroom slippers, know that the Tomori Walk shoes are crafted entirely from suede for optimum comfort. Sure, you slip into them like you would slippers, but wear this with wide-cut tailored trousers, and you’d instantly be the king of nonchalant cool.

7. Classic Cabin, RIMOWA

RIMOWA’s Classic line combines old-world charm with the industrial aesthetics of its signature aluminium design. If it’s even possible, the line also got a bit more chic. The collection now expands with a Titanium colourway (it’s almost like a muted champagne colour) that sits in between the stark Silver and deep Black of the original offerings. We reckon that the exterior would wear pretty beautifully too in this hue.

8. The Yamazaki 12 Years Old single malt Japanese whisky, SUNTORY

Complex is hardly adequate for describing the Yamazaki 12 Years Old. Take a whiff and you’d be greeted with the fruity notes of peach, pineapple and grapefruit. The first taste is buttery with hints of coconut and cranberry, and what lingers is a finish of sweet ginger and cinnamon. Savour this neat, because those flavours are meant to be experienced the whole way through.

9. Beosound Premiere soundbar, BANG & OLUFSEN

Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound Premiere soundbar provides a sound experience that is comparable to a full multi-speaker entertainment system. Its Wide Stage technology renders an immersive spatial sound, putting you right into the action via one sculptural, aluminium design. An optional oak wood cover amps up the aesthetic, merging the futuristic with the natural world.

10. Medium Hampstead tote, BURBERRY

A handsome, professional bag is severely underrated. Burberry’s latest Hampstead silhouette builds on the design of traditional tote bags with influences from a gentleman’s briefcase. This results in a modern interpretation that skews serious but not too serious. The bag looks great when carried by the top handle and has a beautiful slouch when slung over the shoulders with the detachable strap.
