"sacai is about the new classic shape," said creative director Chitose Abe in an interview once. And what's more classic than a pair of Levi's—the quintessential ready-to-wear piece that began as the uniform for hardworking labourers. It was Jacob Davis who revolutionised denim jeans as we know it today, partnering with Levi's in 1973 to patent the reinforcement of denim with copper rivets, resulting in the timeless classic.

For the third time running, Levi's and sacai are back with another collaboration, merging their design philosophies for the de- and re-construction of denim. This time in particular, both brands worked together toward pushing unexplored boundaries of the cloth's structure. Abe transcended Levi's classic contours into unexpected shapes paired with juxtaposing textures.

The latest Levi's x sacai collection explores four key styles comprising of a total of 12 pieces. Each available in both rigid and washed indigo are the Sherpa Jacket, Blouson Jacket, Belted Wide Pants, and Belted Flare Pants. The jackets are cut for both men and women, while the bottoms are designed to be unisex.

The Sherpa Jacket implements a relaxed fit made from indigo-dyed selvedge. It's trimmed with faux sherpa at the collar, cuffs and hem, and finished with a genuine leather patch pocket. More detailed than the rest of the pieces in the collection, the belted leather adjusters are added at the hem as well as the collar, with a back adjuster in denim. Both the men's and women's versions are almost similar, except that the former comes equipped with side seam pockets.

The wash and trims remain consistent for the Blouson Jacket, but the silhouette is decidedly more sleek. Here, you'll find sacai's signature sleeve pocket, as well as elasticated cuffs and hems for a more sculpted shape. The women's version is designed with side seam vents for an even more exaggerated shape.

The Belted Wide Pants and Flare pants are rendered in the same washes. Both feature a belted designs—a signature of sacai—but vary in fit with slight adjustments to design details. The Belted Wide Pants offer a loose, mid-rise fit and finished with sacia-branded buttoned belt loops; the Belted Flare Pants is a standard-rise fit that flares out at the hems, and is further distinguished by welt pockets layered above the traditional back pockets, creating a seven-pocket design.

The entire collection is styled as a complete set with the jacket and the jeans matched by wash. It reinforces the ethos of both brands—of classics, timelessness, and newness. But then again, how you wear each or every piece, is entirely up to you.
