When Dior launched the B30 Countdown in 2021, it was a fitting addition to the House’s growing sneaker repertoire. While there were a number of running-inspired shoes prior, the B30 looked like the kind of footwear that could instantly be considered a staple. It stays true to its inspiration with a sleek running-trainer shape and comfort-centric qualities but embellished with considered Dior branding. The B30 borders on the reimagined familiarity that Kim Jones—former artistic director and purveyor of all things sneakers—did exceptionally well.

It’s rare for fashion houses to feel the need to update their sneakers, especially in a way typical of actual sportswear brands. But Dior is no mere fashion house.

Four years later, the B30 Countdown Tech sneakers (it’s right there in the name) exemplify that craft at Dior isn’t restricted to couture and high fashion. For starters, the reinvented B30 is significantly lighter, shaving off about 20g from its predecessor. The lightweight feel comes largely from the more streamlined upper that’s once again, inspired by the world of running. Semi-transparent technical nylon replaces the original’s plush technical mesh and fabric composition resulting in a super slim profile. The defining elements of the B30 have been made more refined and sleeker with topstitching decisively made almost invisible against the microfibre and rubber detailing. Even the “CD” logos along the sides are more aerodynamic as they seem to float on the sneakers’ upper.

Comfort, however, remains key, in line with the running-inspired design. The outsole of the B30 Countdown Tech is still robustly cushioned and made from a combination of rubber and foam—it looks exactly like that of the original, amped up by the more streamline upper.

We wouldn’t recommend wearing the B30 Countdown Tech in place of proper trainers though. It is still a fashion sneaker first and foremost, but displaying craftsmanship and design considerations that make it more versatile for everyday use than before. Wearing a pair means you’re now lighter on your feet, while keeping that style quotient on par with the elegance of Dior. What else could you ask from an upgrade?
