Esquire 10: The "Fashion Killa" Edit

To have killer style, you don’t absolutely need the latest releases. Still, you’ll do well to keep abreast of fashion’s cutting edge. We leave it to you to interpret this edit of sharp fashion

1. J12 Paradoxe Watch Calibre 12.1, 38mm ceramic and steel case with ceramic bracelet, CHANEL

Launched five years ago, this two-toned version of the Chanel classic remains an understated piece of graphic ingenuity. And perhaps that’s a good thing. It takes deft style chops to wear this piece intentionally, and in a way that’s an extension of one’s personality. Wearing one’s hint of darkness for all to see on the wrist? Menacing.

2. Gymnasium sneakers, MIU MIU

Backed by the success of its continued collaboration with New Balance, Miu Miu’s own sneaker designs have levelled up. The Gymnasium silhouette has an old-school charm but now trimmed with snakeskin for a luxurious sporty-chic aesthetic. Miu Miu’s sneakers now run up to a Euro 43 too, so they’re not just for the ladies.

3. Veneto crossbody bag, BOTTEGA VENETA

The brand’s more elaborate designs—the Andiamo, and the Sardine—may be more talked about, but true connoisseurs know that the Intrecciato looks best in sleek simplicity. Crafted with minimal hardware, the Veneto lets its signature technique be the hero of a piece that looks aesthetically seamless.

4. Mega Clubmaster sunglasses, RAY-BAN

As part of A$AP Rocky’s (y’know, the first-ever creative director of Ray-Ban) Blacked Out collection, the new Mega Clubmaster has a vintage appeal. Black with gold accents, the piece is fitted with wider temples and an even bolder brow line. Whether you’re partial to the rapper or not, this is one item that’ll instantly turn you into a fashion killa.

5. International Expandable Front Lid 4 Wheel Carry-on, TUMI

There is certainly no missing this carry-on luggage. The expandable (and dare we say, dependable) TUMI luggage is now decorated with a graphic print inspired by posters you would see in New York. Expect slight variations as each print is executed differently, even as the beloved functionalities and clever user experience remain top-notch.

6. Pocket square, HERMÈS

It’s not a party until it’s an Hermès party… is probably not how the saying goes, but hear us out. This pocket square depicts a pixelated illustration of a shindig at the Maison’s historic Faubourg address. For that hint of unserious style at the most serious of occasions, don’t limit its use to just a pocket square. The 42cm by 42cm size means you could easily use it as a neckerchief. Or whatever else your creativity leads you to.

7. Mimosa scented candle, LOEWE

We’re not even going to bother describing the scent of this candle. Because let’s face it, in this instance, the vessel is the main character. The terracotta piece was treated with a reactive glaze to give a unique, almost organic, pattern to its exterior. It’s every bit as stunning whether it’s lit or not.

8. Speedy P9 Bandoulière 30 bag, LOUIS VUITTON

With a colour named for the Japanese art form of repairing pottery, this Gold Kintsugi version of the Speedy P9 exudes an intensity. The bag’s pleasant gold hue is more matte than garishly shiny, and there'll be no denying that all eyes will be on you when you tote this around.

9. Tie, POLO RALPH LAUREN

Ties are hitting a resurgence (we swear it’s true) and hardly anyone does it better than the king of prep, Ralph Lauren. This Polo Ralph Lauren piece keeps things Ivy League with a lone crest in the middle and varsity-inspired lines. The way to wear one is, as per style custom, rakishly and not too uptight.

10. Bag charm, DIOR MEN

What looks like a simple fashioning of the Dior Saddle charm into a bird, is actually more than what it is. If the bird motif seems familiar, it is taken from the elaborate Pondicherry embroidery that was the centrepiece of the House’s 1948 haute couture collection. Modernising a piece of fashion history into an accessory that’s become quite a global obsession is pretty killer, no?
