Head in the Clouds

Oasia partners with Woosa Sleep to deliver a curated sleep experience

(FAR EAST HOSPITALITY)

Oasia Downtown is quite literally a marvel. I’m standing outside, at ground level, staring up at a building wrapped in red aluminium mesh, where plants cling and weave to climb 624 feet into the sky like they’re chasing something. I squint up, trying to catch a glimpse of the top, but it’s just sky and green and red, dancing in sunlight. I’m accompanied by the lovely hotel staff, who explain how the foliage isn’t just decoration. It cools the building, cuts electricity costs, and, more poetically, changes the façade of the building as they bloom on their own schedule.

This philosophy of maximising architecture extends to the lobby of the hotel, which resides on the 12th floor. From a distance, the structure looks like someone took a knife to it, carving out chunks big enough for full-grown trees to rise inside. I’ve always wondered about the economics of it—all that prime real estate in the CBD sacrificed to emptiness. But then, that’s part of the allure, and it’s what drew me to the hotel in the first place. I soon found out that the gaps aren’t just aesthetic; they funnel wind, turning the building into a giant flute. Cool air rushes in, heat gets pushed out. It's like the whole structure is exhaling, cooling the entire open-air lobby thanks to the natural draft.

None of this is news, of course

Oasia Downtown opened in 2016 and recently celebrated its ninth anniversary. But the architecture is so intrinsic to the experience, it’d be criminal not to mention it. Still, I’m not here just to gawk at plants and wind tunnels. I’m here for the sleep.

The hotel has partnered with Woosa Sleep to curate an experience that maximises what a good night’s sleep can do for you. All five participating Oasia properties are involved in this project, but only the suites in Downtown offer the experience, so that’s where I stayed.

Suite Room Living Area (FAR EAST HOSPITALITY)

In a dark-toned room with warm wood panels lining the walls and floors, copper shows up here and there. Glinting from a lamp, a table leg, a doorknob. Yellow lights illuminate the room gently, consolidating the copper and wooden theme into a cohesive unit.

The space is divided into three zones: a living room with a bouncy couch, a coffee machine, and a TV. A bathroom with a bathtub that coexists seamlessly with the room through corridors and sliding doors. And the bedroom: another TV, a view of the club swimming pool, and the star of the show—an adjustable bed that vibrates, inclines, and cradles.

Curated Selection of Pillows (FAR EAST HOSPITALITY)
Natural Bamboo Bathrobe (FAR EAST HOSPITALITY)

Here’s how the tailored rest-to-rise ritual goes. First, you slip into a 100% natural bamboo bathrobe, so soft it might as well be silk. Then comes a knock on the door—a complimentary nightcap arrives, hot cocoa in a cup to warm and ground your body. You sink into the bed wrapped in grade 6A silk duvets—it’s softer than any bedding you’ve slept on, and it regulates temperature perfectly. The pillows? You picked them yourself earlier, of which there were four options to choose from: soft, extra soft, medium, and firm.

Woosa's Adjustable Bed (FAR EAST HOSPITALITY)

You grab the remote to the bed and press the “TV position” button. The bed inclines as you put on a random movie on HBO. Mr and Mrs Smith is playing tonight. You continue experimenting as Pitt and Jolie argue attractively in the background. “Anti-snore” reclines the bed to a natural head-tilt position. “Zero Gravity” lifts your legs and cradles your back, cocooning you. You feel like you’re almost floating among the clouds. You close your eyes to simulate how it would feel to sleep in this position, and you actually almost do. But you stop yourself—not yet. There’s more.

Woosa Essential Sleep Kit (FAR EAST HOSPITALITY)

You reach for Woosa’s sleeping kit and roll their Midnight Rain essential oil onto your wrists, behind your ears. The scent is dark, velvety. You plug your ears with the provided earplugs. You glance at the remote again—there’s one more option you haven’t explored: “Massage”. You don’t feel any kneading, no pounding—just a low, rhythmic hum. It relaxes you, not in a way that loosens your muscles, but your thoughts. The rhythmic pattern is hypnotic, massaging that part of your brain that counts sheep for you. Finally, you slip on the silk eye mask. By this point, all five senses have been gentled. Soon enough, you don’t remember drifting off to sleep—but you do.

Wellness in motion

Besides maximising restfulness, Oasia has a suite of wellness activities readily available for every guest. It used to be just for Club Room guests, but I hear the hotel is quietly rolling out this privilege to all guests.

Rooftop Pool (FAR EAST HOSPITALITY)

At the highest level—27—mesh panels and creeper plants extend above the building to meet the sun, creating a jungle canopy that offers filtered shade to the swimming pool. This is where Aqua Spin and Aqua Circuit classes happen—water-based workouts that get your blood moving, minus all the sweating. HIIT, Pilates, and morning yoga happen by the open-air lawn at level 12. I meant to go for the 8am yoga class, but I slept through it. However, I’d like to think that says more about the quality of sleep I got, rather than my behavioural habits.

I did, however, drag myself to sound healing at SPACE2B, a short walk into the CBD. Gongs, crystal bowls, and Tibetan singing bowls send vibrations moving through muscle and bone, convincing my body to relax. Time blurred, and I ended up falling asleep in class, but I left feeling reset, and that’s the point.

If you decide to try this Oasia x Woosa experience (which runs until 31 December 2025), here’s a strange, lovely thing: you may never see the ground during your stay. The mesh and panels wrap you up and away, blocking any direct view downwards. There won’t be any sense of the city beneath you—only skyscrapers, near and far, surround you. It seems unlikely to find respite in the middle of the CBD. But Oasia Downtown does it by lifting you up and letting the world fall away, until it feels like you’re sleeping in the sky.

Oasia Hotel Downtown is located at 100 Peck Seah St, Singapore 079333
