What Does an NBA Watch Look Like?

Tissot's suite of novelties include a watch imbued with the NBA's spirit

Stephen Curry’s half-court heave over OKC in the Western Conference Finals, Kawhi Leonard’s impossible fallaway over Joel Embiid in Game 7, Damian Lillard’s cold-blooded logo three over Paul George in 2019. If you don’t follow the NBA, these are just empty, weightless words strung together. But if you know ball, I’ve just coloured your mind with nail-biting moments of held breaths and sharp gasps. Moments that have shaped the NBA playoffs for as long as the games have been recorded.

Since 2015, Tissot—that Swiss heritage brand has been making sure that every orange leather ball leaves a player’s fingertips before the 24 seconds run out. Time, as it turns out, needs a guardian. And now, with the latest renewal of their partnership, they’ll keep doing it. To celebrate, the brand has crafted a new timepiece that carries the essence of the NBA in its bones—Tissot Supersport NBA Special Edition.

Let’s start from the outside and work our way in. The 45mm black PVD case is flanked by straps constructed of rubber, synthetic materials, and leather, to mirror the feel of a basketball. Red and blue accents appear here and there as stitches on the strap, and on markers on the bezel, which also incorporates a nod to the 24-second rule.

The dial further echoes the pebbled skin of a basketball and adds depth with a gradient fade from dark grey to black at the edges. This serves as a canvas for elements like numeral indexes that resemble the typeface on a jersey and a seconds hand sporting the NBA logo—just in case there was any doubt where this watch draws its soul.

On the back, you’ll find intricate engravings of the cities and states in which teams are based, divided by East and West, circling the league’s emblem.

Other novelties

Beyond the NBA, Tissot has been busy. A new suite of novelties is now out—I'll link them here. But what draws the eye, again and again, is the PRX. The brand’s emblematic collection continues to grow, its already rock-solid foundation of 60 references swelling with fresh arrivals. From icy blue dials to gold-coated bezels that hark back to the ’90s, these integrated-bracelet watches continue to walk the line between accessible and luxury, which far exceeds their price tag.
