In the latest episode of Esquire's Lookbook video series, Jack O'Connell opens up about the process of filming Sinnerswhere the Derby-born actor plays the villainous role of a Jim Crow-era vampire, Remmick.

As you'd expect, that includes numerous takes in blood-drenched costume—which, in his words, "sucked"—as well as sinister red contact lenses, ones that caused some issues during filming.

"The lenses... I forget the terminology, but they were really reflective. Similar to a cat's; when you shine light on them you'll see this red hue. It was really affecting man, but it also meant you couldn't really see more than three feet in front of you," he tells us in the video. "But that was really quite liberating, because it meant that you couldn't see the camera. You couldn't see the crew. You could only really see what was going on in the scene."

Away from Sinners, O'Connell opened up about the clothes he wore in past roles that made his name. That includes Cook, the party-going cheeky chappy that graced our screens in the era-defining Channel 4 series Skins. A pair of Dr. Martens loafers that were sourced for the role are still in his wardrobe, but only three of the four tassels remain.

For red carpet ensembles, he works with his "shit hot" stylist Luke Day, including the suave Dolce & Gabbana number that he wore to the Sinners premiere.

Has O'Connell had to wear any pieces that he really didn't like? Well, his real-life Ferrari character, Peter Collins, had a hat he wasn't partial to. Still, better to wear than Dracula's dinner.

Sinners is now out in theatres
