Spend a Nostalgic Day at Cathay

(THE CATHAY)

The Cathay is turning its official opening into a three day celebration. Following its soft launch in March, the landmark has been reimagined as a lifestyle hub, anchored by a striking 360 degree multimedia tower in its atrium. Visitors can expect bursts of colour, with two confetti showers raining down over $10,000 worth of e-vouchers and prizes from tenants such as Erabelle, Sheng Siong Supermarket, and Tsui Wah (these will take place from 7pm on 15 & 16 August).

Alongside the retail and dining mix, the programme packs in celebrity appearances, complimentary workshops from wine appreciation to hair styling, a pets zone, pop-up tastings, and plenty of family-friendly treats including free bouncy castles, balloons, popcorn and candy floss for children under 12.

When: 15 August - 17 August
Where: The Cathay, 2 Handy Rd Singapore 229233

Immerse Yourself with a Heritage Exhibition

Timeless Flows: The Legacy and Evolution of the Singapore River invites visitors to journey through nearly two centuries of change, told through nine evocative artworks inspired by "The Singapore River: A Social History", 1819–2002 by associate professor Stephen Dobbs. Once the throbbing heart of Singapore’s colonial trade, the river bustled with lightermen ferrying goods between ship and shore men whose quiet grit underpinned the nation’s early prosperity.

Reimagined by Dr. Kay Kok, the exhibition introduces Ah Huat and Wei Wei, two fictional figures whose lives flow in parallel with the river’s transformation from the 1940s to the present day. Through their eyes, visitors witness the lighterage trade’s slow fade, the shifting rhythms of the waterfront, and the enduring spirit of a place that has always been more than just water.

Visit an All in One Event

Somewhere Out There is a day long gathering where music, art, and community flow together under the open sky. The Evermore Stage takes centre spotlight with a line-up that spans sounds and continents, from local favourites Raaj and Yaø to genre-defying Balming Tiger, Grammy nominated R&B talent Rimon, the experimental electronic duo Mxgpu, and the magnetic presence of Bonobo. Just a short wander away, the Roots Stage pulses with infectious energy as homegrown collectives including Blackout Agency, GrooveTop, Last Saturdays, Soul Collective, and Ice Cream Sundays keep the beats rolling from sunlight to starlight.

Beyond the music, it offers spaces to slow down, explore, and create. Under Canopy, a co-curation with Wild Pearl Studio, you’ll find workshops that blend movement and art with Guesthouse, interactive works by HAFI, yoga sessions with Yoga For A Change, and photographic storytelling with Colossal. Around the grounds, interactive installations by Layyi, Auntiemakeflower, Shao Xuan, and Megan invite moments of play and reflection, while live art from Erikartoon, Alysha & Tasha, Polina Korobova, and Putri Adif brings fresh interpretations of the Evermore Tree. And when the sun dips, the celebration doesn’t end; all ticket holders are welcome at the exclusive Rasa Space afterparty, where Kunda, Raja Rani, and Roshan carry the night forward.

Vist a Local Exhibition

PASAR reimagines the exhibition with a twist. Taking inspiration from Asian night bazaars, wet markets, and mamak stalls with inserting places thick with rhythm, scent, and informal exchange. Here, art is displayed not as a pristine object, but as part of a living, breathing archive. Spanning the 1960s to early 2000s, the works on show come from ten private collections.

Framed within Art Again’s role as a secondary art marketplace, PASAR draws an honest, and often humorous, link between the art world and your local fruit stall. The dealer’s wall isn’t so different from a durian crate. In celebrating SG60 and two years of Art Again, PASAR invites people to explore the local art scene.

When: 8 August - 15 August, from 11am to 6pm & 16 August - 17 August. from 11am to 2pm

Watch Local Short Films

Back for its second edition, the Asian Film Archive’s annual shorts showcase 17 new works by young Singaporean filmmakers, each one selected from over 100 submissions. The programme isn’t just about what’s on screen, either. Alongside the screenings are filmmaker Q&As and essays from local writers that offer more ways into each piece. It’s the kind of experience that reminds you just how much is happening in Singapore’s film scene; especially when younger voices are given the room to experiment and make sense of the world on their own terms.

Live Out Your Jurassic Park Dreams

(NEON)
(NEON)

Having made its rounds in Paris, London, and Colombia, Jurassic World: The Experience is now stomping its way onto our sunny shores—more specifically, into the cool, lush foliage of the Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay. Expect to encounter towering, lifelike animatronic dinosaurs, such as a roaring Tyrannosaurus emerging from a wreath of mist, or a Stygimoloch attempting to free itself from a freight container. There’s even an 8.5-metre-tall Brachiosaurus ready to greet you, surrounded by 3D replicas of long-extinct plants dating back to the Jurassic period.

Do be warned that the effects are highly realistic, so it’s worth mentally preparing your child if you have one of those. But if they do end up in tears, there are petting stations where baby dinosaurs are ready to sniff their hands and be petted.

When: Now till 31 December 2025, 9am to 9pm daily
Where: Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore 018953

Read a Book or Two

Casual Poet Library is turning one, and in true laid back fashion, they’re marking the occasion not with speeches or cake, but with an “outdoor library day”. The kind of event where conversation slips in between chapters, and strangers become familiar over borrowed books. You can bring your own book or pick one from the library’s collection. Bonus points if you show up with a picnic mat, a foldable chair, or a flask of something warm.

Celebrate SG60 with a Bang

Headquarters is throwing a rare double celebration for Bassis Asia’s 10 year anniversary and Singapore’s 60th year of independence. The underground institution sets the stage for a full bodied sonic experience, as the regional agency brings its sound forward ethos home after a recent showcase at Tokyo’s VENT.

The night kicks off early on Level 3 with ICS favourites Bongomann and Toppings setting the tone with their eclectic, finely tuned selections. Downstairs, it’s a heavyweight affair with genre bending NYC producer Kush Jones (3FEETHI) returning to town, and South Korea’s own Closet Yi making her long-awaited Singapore debut. With credits across Beam Bangkok and VENT Tokyo, she’s a name already woven into the fabric of East Asia’s club circuit. Rounding out the lineup is Helios XL (NEZ), the Revision Music founder who helped introduce Kush to local floors in 2022, back on warm up duties to guide the night’s ascent.

Meet the New Artists of Singapore

To mark Singapore’s 60th year of independence, Cuturi Gallery presents Sixty Summers Here, a group show that steers clear of sweeping declarations. Instead, it turns its attention to the subtleties: what it means to live, make, and pay attention in the city today. Featuring ten Singaporean artists in their 20s and 30s, the exhibition leans into process and presence rather than polished narratives.
