This July, Haw Par Villa transforms into something far from the usual trip through hell. Skechers Sundown Festival is back for its 13th run, and it’s coming in hot with a full-blown collision of sustainability and pop-Asian energy. With acts like K-pop icon Hwasa, Korean rapper Dabin, Thai alt-rock trio Tilly Birds, and Chinese indie darling Young Captain, the lineup cuts across genres and regions with ease.
But this year’s festival isn’t just about chasing headliners or snapping sunset selfies. It’s proudly billed as Asia’s first carbon-negative music festival, and it takes that seriously. There’s a dedicated Gaia zone for eco talks and workshops, climate-themed art installations, plant-based bites, and even a Music Climate Action Summit featuring artists like Hila the Earth. In a time when festivals can often feel like endless consumption, Sundown feels like a breath of fresh air.

After months spent piecing together stories in thread and ink, Shian’s debut solo show, Harbinger, lands like a quiet spell. Drawing from Chinese folk imagery and dreamlike fragments, the exhibition slips between worlds. Tigers curl around lotus ponds, odd frogs linger in the corners, and each work hums with a sense of otherworldly presence.
Rooted in intuition and charged with quiet magic, Shian’s work meditates on what it means to move through thresholds. It’s a show best wandered through slowly, letting each piece pull at something unspoken. Opening night promises not just a glimpse into Shian’s world but a full immersion—textiles, tears, and maybe a strange sense of clarity in the chaos.
When: 28 June -20 July, from 1pm to 6pm (closed on Mondays and Sundays)
Special Opening night on 27 June, from 7pm to 11pm
Where: Chaos Gallery, Knuckles & Notch, 261 Waterloo Street, #02-25
At a time when art spaces can often feel intimidating or out of reach, Supper House is quietly inviting you to their space. Their latest initiative—a series of pop-up exhibitions nestled within the Journey East furniture store—blurs the lines between the everyday and the extraordinary. Ong Si Hui’s opening show, 開門見山, is a prime example as its serene sculptural works invite reflection, not spectacle, and carry the weight of time and travel in their quiet forms.
With new “micro-shows” appearing regularly and an upcoming satellite exhibition at Jurong West’s Blk 505 wet market, they’re proving that art doesn’t need a pristine gallery or polished crowd to make an impact. By meeting people where they are—whether browsing furniture or buying bok choy—they’re chipping away at the idea that art is something separate from life.
When: Now till 29 July, from 10am to 6pm
Where: Journey East Store, #03-02 Tan Boon Liat Building, 315 Outram Road
Having made its rounds in Paris, London, and Colombia, Jurassic World: The Experience is now stomping its way onto our sunny shores—more specifically, into the cool, lush foliage of the Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay. Expect to encounter towering, lifelike animatronic dinosaurs, such as a roaring Tyrannosaurus emerging from a wreath of mist, or a Stygimoloch attempting to free itself from a freight container. There’s even an 8.5-metre-tall Brachiosaurus ready to greet you, surrounded by 3D replicas of long-extinct plants dating back to the Jurassic period.
Do be warned that the effects are highly realistic, so it’s worth mentally preparing your child if you have one of those. But if they do end up in tears, there are petting stations where baby dinosaurs are ready to sniff their hands and be petted.
When: Now till 31 December 2025, from 9am to 9pm daily
Where: Cloud Forest, Gardens by the Bay, 18 Marina Gardens Dr, Singapore 018953

If you've done any sauntering around New Bahru since its inception, you might've noticed a clanedestine Korean restaurant tucked in the corner of the ground floor. Odem, Singapore’s first craft Makkoli bar and restaurant, has recently released a new lunch menu focused on hearty one-bowl meals—each paired with banchan (think house-made kimchi and marinated quail eggs), rice, and seaweed soup.
Before we get to the mains, do yourself the favour of ordering their Brioche, a ridiculously addictive bun glazed with sweet soy, served warm with a smear of gamtae butter. Yes, we're still raving about it.
Weekend brunch brings the Kalbi Sando—beef short rib, perilla pickles, and aged cheddar on milk bread—and the refreshing Duck Guksu, featuring BBQ duck on perfectly chewy buckwheat noodles with perilla seed sauce. Chef Yumi’s Abalone Boribap, a nostalgic nod to her childhood, is a must: tender abalone, pearl barley, and a silky makkoli-abalone jus. These dishes are exclusive only to the weekend, so you'll want to make your plans accordingly. And yes, their makkoli flights are there if you’re feeling bold at noon on a Saturday.
Sidenote: They also have a weekday lunch menu, which includes the Hwe-Dupbap, a Korean-style chirashi loaded with fresh seafood, spicy perilla, and cho-gochujang, or the Seoul-Style Beef Bulgogi, where tender grilled beef meets crunchy veggies and glass noodles.
When: 11:30am to 2:00pm weekends only
Where: 46 Kim Yam Rd #01-17, Singapore 239351
