Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025: a Trio of A. Lange & Söhne *Chef's Kiss* Excellence

From a repeater to a refined 34mm classic to a honeyed sports watch, A. Lange & Söhne proves mastery in watchmaking comes in many forms

While other manufactures dole out timepieces in abundance, A. Lange & Söhne unveils a trifecta of watches—each radically distinct yet carries that unmistakable A. Lange & Söhne spirit. Holding these pieces at their booth in Watches and Wonders 2025, felt like an occasion. We begin with the ODYSSEUS model, now in honey gold.

ODYSSEUS Honey Gold.

A. Lange & Söhne's vision of a modern sports-luxury watch is executed in its proprietary 18-carat alloy that radiates both warmth and resilience. Measuring 40.5mm in diameter and 11.1mm thick, the ODYSSEUS is reimagined with a dial, rendered in a rich brown hue, that's paired with a bracelet in a honey gold glow. White numerals for the day and outsize date pop vividly against the dial, while a red “60” at the top of the minute track offers a sporty contrast. Textures abound—embossed grooves, sunken surfaces, notched baton appliqués—each lends dimensionality and tension to the design. The case is withstands a test pressure of 12 bar.

The bracelet flows from the case in a five-link cascade. It's secured by a deployant buckle that allows for micro-adjustments up to 7mm. The L155.1 DATOMATIC movement is built with durability; the skeletonised rotor features a platinum centrifugal mass and a unidirectional winding for efficient energy delivery. You've a 50-hour power reserve and a 28,800 bph balance for chronometric reliability. The ODYSSEUS honey gold is limited to 100 pieces.

A. Lange & Söhne 1815 models (in blue and reddish-brown straps).

Next is the 1815 model. In 34mm, this is welcome balm in an industry filled with oversized statements. Available in pink or white gold, the 1815 is a 6.4mm-thin case with a gently tiered bezel that frames a classically styled dial. With Arabic numerals, a railway-track minute scale, and a seconds sub-dial at six o’clock, the design looks clean, simple even but underneath the sapphire caseback beats the newly developed L152.1 calibre. This is Lange’s 75th movement since its re-establishment. This hand-wound complication features a freely oscillating balance spring and a screw balance crafted in-house. The three-quarter plate, Glashütte ribbing, and thermally blued screws are an ode to traditional Saxon finishing, while the power reserve—a full 72 hours—is anything but vintage. The 1815 is paired with either a blue or reddish-brown leather strap (depending on case metal). Sometimes the loudest statement is the one whispered in confidence; that is the 1815.

A. Lange & Söhne Minute Repeater Perpetual

Lastly, we come to our favourite of the three: the Minute Repeater Perpetual. Housed in a 40.5mm platinum case, its perpetual calendar mechanism adjusts for leap years and any calendar irregularities. The moon-phase display is so precise that deviates by just one day every 122.6 years. There's a main black dial and a trio of sub-dials below, each encircled by circular lesenes. An oversize date sits at 12 o'clock. Turn it over and you'll see the manually wound L122.2 calibre under a sapphire crystal caseback.

Slide the lever on the left flank of the case and the watch releases a composition of chimes that translate time into melody. Each low, medium, and high-pitched strike corresponds to the hours, quarter-hours, and minutes past the quarter respectively. The two gongs—bent by hand, tuned by ear—offer 720 unique sequences, one for every minute in a 12-hour cycle.

But it is the pause elimination feature that endeared us to the Minute Repeater Perpetual. In traditional repeaters, there's a slight pause between the hour strike and the minute strike. With a pause elimination, it creates a smoother and more natural chiming experience. A patented hammer blocker prevents rebound strikes. Safety systems ensure that the crown and chiming mechanism never clash in operation. This isn't a new feature for A. Lange & Söhne (there's the Richard Lange Minute Repeater) but it is rare so to see one in person is a red-letter day. Limited to only 50 pieces worldwide, this a a prize worth having, if you can.
