It's almost a year since Marvel announced the imminent arrival of The Fantastic Four movie and now we got a teaser that showcases the going-ons of Marvel's First Family.
The minute-and-a-half teaser carries the whiff of The Jetsons, of a future imagined by people living in the '60s. Aside from the retro-futurism, there's also appearances of the Fantastic Four's H.E.R.B.I.E. (Humanoid Experimental Robot B-Type Integrated Electronics) prepping a meal and the silhouette of Galactus looming over New York City. (We don't see the Devourer of Worlds' herald, The Silver Surfer [Julia Garner] though.)
We also get to see powers displayed by Susan Storm (Vanessa Kirby) Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)... but, weirdly, we don't witness Reed Richards' (Pedro Pascal) elastic ability.
(Another thing of note: we were taken aback by how Ben Grimm aka The Thing sounds in the teaser. It's not the usual "gravelly-tone" often associated with a being made out of rocks. For this itineration, he sounds like a gentler "Cousin Richie".)
The Fantastic Four teaser really brought to fore the core idea of family. Especially when Reed told a reporter about the team's weekly family dinner. "Sunday at seven, on the dot, no matter what. We are all here."
And from the teaser that we saw, we'll be there when the film is released 25 July.
