Wait, it's already December? Someone pinch me—I can hardly believe it. Time to dust off those Christmas decorations because the end of the year is officially in sight. But let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet. With the first weekend in December upon us, and Christmas creeping closer, here's a fun list of things to do to make the most of it.

Visit a Luxury Flea Market

On 7 December, Archive Collective by Opus takes over HighHouse for a one-day-only fashion archive market unlike any other. The 62-level lounge transforms into a chic marketplace from 11 AM to 4 PM. Snag pre-loved designer gems directly from the wardrobes of Singapore’s top fashion personalities—Jamie Chua, Calista Cuaca, Rachel Wong, Carrie Wong, and more. You can expect Dior, Chanel, Prada, and Balenciaga treasures of the like. The best part? Entry is free, and you'll be able to strike a conversation or two with the personalities at their booths. Remember, sustainability is at the forefront here, so you'll want to bring your own bag.

Celebrate HighHouse's First Anniversary

(HighHouse)

The iconic HighHouse, where we celebrated our birthday earlier this year, is hosting its own bash this Saturday—and it's bound to be a blast. Let's begin on level 61, the HighHouse Supper Club where guests can indulge in delights like Mini King Crab Rolls, Fijian-Style Fish Ceviche, and much more. Oh let's not forget about the live oyster bar, serving up freshly-shucked French Amélie Oysters, perfectly paired with signature cocktails and one-night only creations by bar consultant Jay Gray. Once you're looking or feeling "red" enough, make your way up to level 62, where Fred E and Aldrin will be spinning their magic on the decks.

It's Time to Start Mitigating Climate Change

Dr Sylvia Earle and Dr Jane Goodall
(Hope & Harmony)

How many times have we heard discussions about tackling climate change, only to brush them aside? Don't worry—I'm guilty of it too. But it's time to face reality: temperatures are hitting record highs, and if we keep putting action off until "later," that moment might never come. The Hope & Harmony Dialogue is a wake-up call for change. Featuring two of the world's most renowned conservationists—Dr Sylvia Earle and Dr Jane Goodall—it offers a rare chance to hear their stories of challenges, triumphs and insights into safeguarding our planet's ecosystem. The dialogue goes beyond words—it's a rallying cry for action, inspiring us to work towards a future where humanity and nature thrive.

“Knowing is the key to caring, and with caring there is hope that people will be motivated to take positive actions. They might not care even if they know, but they can’t care if they are unaware.” wrote Dr Sylvia Earle in The World Is Blue: How Our Fate and the Ocean's Are One.

Check out The Substance

(THE SUBSTANCE)

If you're looking for something thought-provoking this weekend, this might be it. The Substance by French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat offers a gripping dive into ambition, vulnerability and the social pressures shaping our lives. Starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, this isn't just entertainment; it's an intense, emotionally resonant experience that feels both personal and universal. Carolie's direction brings each character's journey to life with personal performances and stunning cinematography, making it hard to look away. Not to hype it up too much but just saying, this could be my favourite film all-year-long.

I won't spoil too much so I'll just leave you on a cliff-hanger. The Substance explores the choices we make, leaving viewers with plenty to reflect on, and probably grossed out too—in a good way, of course. So don't miss it—this film will linger with you long after the credits roll (it's still lingering after watching it last week.)

Join a Tartare Making Workshop

Beef Tartare is more than just mincing raw beef. This Saturday, you have the rare opportunity to learn from one of the craft's modern masters, Dario Cecchini. From 12pm to 3pm, participants will embark on a hands-on journey to craft their own signature tartare using Viñals Soler’s premium cuts. Beyond just technical instruction, it's a chance to absorb the philosophy and passion of a true meat maestro—though we suspect the combination of hands-on learning and free-flowing drinks might make this less of a class and more of a sophisticated party with exceptionally good food.

Celebrate Hyperfocus' First Anniversary

A post shared by HYPERFOCUS (@hyperfocus.inc)

Hyperfocus has been shaking up the local party scene with its bold aesthetic and genre-defying events since day one. To celebrate their first year, they will be throwing a bash that promises to be as unorthodox as their reputation. Hosting duties fall to DJ Godkorine, while Colombian sensation Rico Rica lights up the stage with infectious Latin grooves. TIKKOII from Indonesia delivers a wild blend of indo bounce, jungle dutch, and budots, adding an extra layer of unpredictability. The lineup also boasts performances by Jaake from Kuala Lumpur, Tempolaree representing the local crowd, and an epic back-to-back set with New Masculine and Urchin. This is not just another party—it's a statement.

Hear Dead Wives Sing

A post shared by SIX The Musical on Broadway 👑 (@sixbroadway)

Tony Award Winners Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss wrote a college play so successful it took to the international circuit, along with sweeping 35 major awards. Direct from West End and Broadway, SIX spotlights the one thing that gave King Henry VIII notoriety—his wives. All six get a chance to vocalise their bit on the historical misgivings of their husband, but this time with flair. It's impressive vocal range, funny dialogue and basically a pop concert if the infamous wives of English monarchy could form a girl band. The people who rave about it are right, so do catch its highly limited run here. (If you need a quick Tudor recap, here's a cheat sheet)

Get to know Potato Head 1939

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by 1939 Singapore (formerly known as Potato Head) (@1939singapore)

Don't panic. Everything from the iconic art deco facade to the eclectic David Bromley interiors remains. The difference comes in an updated menu with more local influences. A cocktail if Laksa was a tipple, incredibly tender pork belly skewers, and for an establishment known for bestselling burgers (still on the menu thankfully), a pretty damn decent 200g Beef Steak are all part of what you can expect. Now, if you're concerned about standards, there's no change to management and team (breathe easy, Potato Head is still backing this joint).

A good time to get reacquainted is amid the weekend's host of parties. Friday's Afro-electronic beats with KNRCK, Saturday of deep house and disco with Taz Angullia, and Sunday for a high-energy genre blend by Ed Temple, Vio PRG, Renate Berlin and Refuge Worldwide.
