Sometimes we just want to visit exotic locations, but in the most comfortable way possible. There's no judgement here. We are, after all, a very sheltered people living in a very sheltered state. We call anywhere outside the usual destinations exotic. Well, consider The Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara.
All that untamed beauty, but from an elevated perspective. Literally. Each structure across the luxury accommodation positions three meters above ground. While it provides a superior vantage point placing you eye level to forest canopy, it's for highly practical reasons too. The elevation protects you and the property from seasonal flooding, and arguably more importantly, minimises environmental disruption below.
This landmark project marks the first foray not only for the hospitality giant, but the firm behind its execution. LW Design Group, who count the Al Futtaim Group and Dubai airports as clients, are responsible for the immersive embrace of the surrounding Kenyan wilderness.
We're fully aware of how PR-sounding that statement is, but it rings true here. Biophilic principles embeds in the experience; like welcoming guests via a 30-meter swing bridge crossing. Tented suites also feature roll-up canvas walls to fade your quarter's living boundary.
Not to mention the indoor/outdoor showers (that offer complete privacy, relax). Plus, where else do you get private plunge pools and outdoor sunken lounges perched above the treetops? Furnishing and craftsmanship are, consistently and commendably, locally sourced. Most notably, materials handwoven on traditional looms by local artisans.
Landscaping carefully considers and preserves indigenous vegetation. Natural shade, for instance, filtered light through tree canopies. The sounds of the river, the mesmerising sights of the Great Migration; all work together to create a multi-sensory environment. One that evolves with the time of day, and seasons of the year. So yeah, exotic, and so damn classy.
