RIMOWA and Vitra Craft an Aluminium Creation You Can Actually Sit On

Don't act like you don't sit on your RIMOWA suitcase while waiting at the airport

RIMOWA knows that while waiting for that Uber/Gojek/Grab to pick you up from the airport, or while waiting in the seemingly endless immigration line, you're sitting on your RIMOWA suitcase. Whether it's the polycarbonate or the heftier aluminium version, it doubles up as a nifty mobile seat. We've done it often too. (Based on personal experience, the Trunk Plus is possibly the best to sit on).

Perhaps as an answer to this unwitting use of its suitcases, the brand has partnered up with Swiss design furniture brand Vitra to craft a duo of limited-edition creations. And one of them, is a wheeled stool.

Let us caveat this by saying, yes, the RIMOWA Vitra Aluminium Stool is definitely something you're not expected to bring along on your journeys. But in true RIMOWA spirit, the stool doubles up as extra storage space. Crafted from the brand's iconic grooved aluminium, the cube-shaped stool opens up to reveal an interior upholstered with Vitra fabric, offering a clever way to quickly clear away mess when unexpected guests come knocking or as a permanent storage solution for items that are often needed. The interior also comes with a removable leather divider for organisation, and a detachable seat cover. Oh, and of course, the stool—like the suitcases—is fixed with RIMOWA's Multiwheel system for added mobility.

While the RIMOWA Vitra Aluminium Stool is a completely new design by both brands, the collection's Aluminium Toolbox is a reimagining of a Vitra original. The brand is known for collaborating with artists and designers, and the Aluminium Toolbox is based off of the original Vitra Toolbox by industrial designer Arik Levy in 2010. Once again crafted from aluminium, the interior of the toolbox is lined with recycled fabric as a nod to the original's recycled plastic body.

To round off the entire RIMOWA Vitra 2025 collection is a limited-edition sticker set. The designs feature the logos of both brands as a signifier of the collaboration. As one would with RIMOWA suitcases, the stickers are meant for personalisation of the pieces in the collection, but as always, do as you please with them.

What's also interesting with this collection is that the pieces are collaboratively manufactured too. Combining each brand's expertise, the aluminium components are produced in RIMOWA's factory in Cologne, Germany while the upholstered textile elements are done in the Vitra Campus located in Weil am Rhein, Germany. Both designs are available in a trio of colourways—Silver and Ice Blue, Silver and Papyrus, and Silver and Emerald—with the Aluminium Stool produced in a limited run of 1,000 pieces, while only 100 pieces of the Aluminium Toolbox will be made available.

So if you've ever wondered if RIMOWA knows how its customers interact with its products, we like to think that they do.
