It's kinda dumb to be excited about alternative milk, but there's something about a brand that gets it right. Oatside is objectively more bodied (yes, unapologetically using this word on plant milk) than the existing competition, consistently delivering quality since its inception four years ago. Now, it's applying the same ethos of uncomplicated packaging, clean ingredients and affordable price point to another popular non-dairy—Soy.

Soy milk is all-too-familiar to us Asian dwellers. While we're no haters to tau huay zui, the hawker staple often ends with a–excuse the efficient colloquialismsiap siap aftertaste. In ready-to-drink versions, it errs on the side of dilution and excess sweetness. Thus our curiosity and hype to see what the locally-founded company would do to subvert it.

Oops, they did it again

Gone into their little lab to formulate only the creamiest taste soy milk can achieve. Which is typically done by adding oils, gums, emulsifiers; but no, not these neat freaks. Instead, NOBO uses a unique double extraction technology, flash heating and vacuum cooling on carefully selected non-GMO Canadian soybeans.

This results in removing beany notes whilst still preserving natural nutrition. For all the health nuts out there; that's Omega 3, 6, 9, vitamin D, E, B1, B3, B6, B12, calcium, and all nine essential amino acids. 4.2g of protein per 100ml, for the gym rats.

But wait, there's more

Good things come in pairs, so Almond Soy milk completes the duo for the launch. With a definitively more polarising profile, you will prefer it if you lean towards a nuttier palate. Personally, somewhat reminiscent of dates. Both Soy milk editions are satisfyingly concentrated; which allows for savouring alone or as an accompaniment to your caffeine fix.

A 1L carton retails for SGD 2.90, with a bundle of three 180ml packs goes for SGD 2.25. When asked why he didn't price the items on a higher premium, Oatside Founder Benedict Lim simply shrugged and told us it was about keeping the product accessible. How can we not be fans of the brand?

Whether you're a dairy drinker or not, this rendition of soy is surely a game changer.
