Esquire Examines: Louis Vuitton SS27 Menswear

From the ocean's wave, came a Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2027 menswear collection that had elements of a free spirit
Published: 12 July 2026

The first thing that came to mind upon stepping into the runway space of the Louis Vuitton Spring/Sumer 2027 menswear show, this is a runway space. It reminded me of that one time Chanel brought the beach—undulating waves et al—to the Grand Palais; the scale and concept albeit different, but the sensation was perhaps similar. Pharrell Williams concentrated on an ocean wave rather than a full beach—at once a reference to the collection's "surfer dandy" as well as how he's often swept the us all with a cultural wave that continuously blends fashion, design, culture, and music.

The fit: Models appeared from within the wave in Williams' studied combination of tailoring with that slight taste for the utilitarian that he so often favours. As one would expect, there were a number of cheeky ocean-themed references in the form of Breton-striped-inspired shirting to wetsuits decorated with the Louis Vuitton Monogram. Some of the surfer dandies even had actual surfboards on hand, alluding to the lifestyle of a modern Louis Vuitton surfer who's dressed in impeccable tailoring but has the desire to hit the waves after hours or even before heading in to the office.

The details: The Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2027 menswear collection is probably Williams' most literal yet, especially when it came to the flourishes. Sticking to the surf theme, a number of denim pieces were trimmed with shells, while tropical motifs were formed from ornate embellishments. One of the more impressive treatments this time around were the Speedy bags that seemed to be overgrown with beading that resembled multi-coloured corals.

The Acid Rain Monogram is the latest expression of the House's signature. It was teased earlier on social media before the show (debuted by actor Tyriq Withers) and featured a brilliant combination of acid-hued elements from the Monogram arranged in a haphazard manner as though they're raining down the standard Monogram pattern. The Damier too received a multicoloured update where similar acid-hued elements of the Monogram trimmed sides of bags, accessories as well as surfboards.

Three exceptional looks: Look 19, especially with that jacket crafted from a patchwork of souvenir patches; the super-chic combination of yellow tones on look 35 that made the tropical motifs on the cardigan stood out; and the perfect styling of look 55.

The takeaway: There's no stopping the Pharrell wave of influence in style.
