One might see horse-riding as a leisure activity that Loro Piana devotees pen down in their calendars every week. But perhaps one might not realise that the brand has had a longstanding relationship with the equestrian world as early as 1985 when it formed the Loro Piana Jumping team. This season, the cashmere-loving brand employed horse-riding as a metaphor—a sojourn through vast landscapes, crossing continents in order to gather supplies it requires to craft its luxurious pieces in Italy.
The soft Merino wool Loro Piana sources from Australia and New Zealand creates much of the basis of the Autumn/Winter 2025 collection. The hand feel of the pieces as well as their soft constructions are emblematic of Loro Piana’s menswear, but the relaxed nature of the pieces is more pronounced this time around. The Spagna jacket, for example, is reimagined as a cape, with a cropped proportion—an example of how the collection focuses on the ease of natural movements around the body. Even in the more suited-up moments in the collection, the formality of the garments eschews stiffness both in fabric and look. Double-breasted suits are cut roomy with slightly slouched shoulders, while overcoats look grand and have enough give to envelope all the tactile layers piled on underneath.

The evening proposals within the collection offer a new standard to sartorial dressing for formal occasions. The sense of ease continues but is made more dramatic with monochromatic pairings—the Spagna cape layered over a tuxedo, and a quilted version of the Spagna constructed as part of a splendid three-piece—that lend a sort of Western air. In one instance, inlay intarsia on a black cashmere jacket hints at what Loro Piana could potentially evolve into someday, with more outstanding use of decorations, yet still retaining masculine elegance.
The more literal nods to horse-riding are seen through the styling of the collection, as well as in the footwear, and the design nuances in the ready-to-wear. Quilted hunting jackets make for the perfect horseback outfit, complete with knee-high leather boots. For the most part, trousers are often tucked into boots—an extension of Loro Piana’s favourite socks-over-trousers look as well as a horse-riding uniform.

You may or may not be a horse-riding enthusiast, but the Loro Piana Autumn/Winter 2025 collection is more about adopting that sense of adventure and the brand’s style. Maybe, as you begin to rediscover both, you will emerge with the spirit of a stallion, ready to conquer anything in your way—in effortless style, of course.
