Le Labo Fragrances return with another City Exclusive, where the brand pays tribute to the cities around the world. This year, Le Labo picks Beijing for a new City Exclusive, and while we were hoping a scent that's along the lines of mala (sorry, we wrote this before lunch), we'll have to settle for notes of camphor, pink pepper, and frankincense.

Called SHIU 25, the fragrance is inspired by the Le Labo Beijing He Yuan Fragrance Lab. Situated in a heritage-listed courtyard house in the middle of Beijing, think of the lab as a balm from all the busy-ness of the city. (Like, have you been there recently? It's great and will overload your senses.) To further emphasise that point, one of SHIU 25's core extract comes from the essence of the ho tree that's often associated with calm.

Then, a light iris, pink peppercorn and resinous frankincense are added to it. Like a comforter, the iris and peppercorn draped over a centred calmness, while the woodiness of the frankincense grounds them.

Normally, the Le Labo's City Exclusive scents are only sold at the cities that said fragrances belong to, but during the magical month of September, all the City Exclusives are available for sale on the Le Labo Fragrances website, in labs, and select retailers.
