For a union to occur, there needs to be a common denominator between two parties. And there's nothing stronger than belief. It's not immediately evident about what Glenfiddich and the Aston Martin Formula One™ Team have in common. One's the producer of the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky, the other is a British-based racing constructor. A world-class single malt and a Formula One car may have little in common on the surface, but both are the product of meticulous work that happens long before the final result is revealed.
Glenfiddich's malt master, Brian Kinsman and the Aston Martin Formula One™ Team's managing technical partner, Adrian Newey, were inspired by the invisible machinations that bubble beneath the surface. Nothing happens in a vacuum. For every zip past the finish line is a well-oiled pit crew; the engine's horsepower; the driver's intuitiveness from years on the track. For every dram of whisky comes years of oversight, and deft maturation that shapes it into what it is today.
For its second year of the collaboration between Glenfiddich and the Aston Martin Formula One™ Team, comes a 16 Year Old Limited Edition Release No.2. Matured across five cask types—two more than the last edition—the whisky's complexity drew from first-fill bourbon barrels; Oloroso sherry casks; wine casks; Port pipes; before finishing in Fino sherry butts.
The result is a refined and assured whisky. Bottled at 43 per cent ABV, it opens with aromas of rich fruit and marzipan, followed by a palate of cream, orchard fruit and toffee before a lingering woody sweetness on the finish. On the palate, a swirl of cream, orchard fruit, and toffee, before finishing with a lingering woody sweetness.
Commemorating this release, Glenfiddich places the focus on the Singapore bar scene. Six iconic drinking holes (ANTI:DOTE, High House, temper., Tess Bar, Writers Bar and VUE) will host their two original Glenfiddich creations each alongside the signature Speyside Spritz.
Our local bars will parlay their creativity with several Glenfiddich whiskies for F1-sounding cocktails that will only be available for this occasion. Cocktails include the ear-catching “Box, Box, Box!” from ANTI:DOTE, which has a Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, Pedro Ximénez, smoked oak, and chocolate; the creamy-tasting Silverstone 16 from Writers Bar that's made from a Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, IPA beer, lemon, raspberry, and egg white; Apex Fizz from temper., which comprises of a Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, grapefruit, and soda—simple ingredients, but the taste is far layered than that.
The Glenfiddich Speyside Spritz will also be available across participating bars, with each venue offering its own interpretation of the serve. Expect a refreshing blend of Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, pear liqueur, fresh lime juice and a splash of soda.
Time is a great equaliser, but what you make with it is what determines the fruit of your labour. Whether it's years of precision, or the experience of craftsmanship, the majority will not witness the unseen work poured into the endeavour. But the effort will be keenly felt in the result.
Patrons can partake in the limited-time cocktail programme, with exclusive serves available at the following bars—ANTI:DOTE, High House, temper., Tess Bar, Writers Bar and VUE. This programme will run until the end of October.
