From Louis to Vuitton

Louis Vuitton’s latest book, From Louis to Vuitton, charts the history of the Maison from its humble beginnings to a force of luxury known the world over

There have been many books about Louis Vuitton throughout the years. The Maison’s own publishing arm counts over 100 titles ranging from travel to art to hardcover books that delve into the many facets of the Louis Vuitton universe. And we aren’t even counting the ones published in unofficial capacities. None, perhaps, have been as cleverly titled as From Louis to Vuitton.

The latest book, published in collaboration with Assouline, is a visual narrative of the Maison’s history—its journey from founder Louis Vuitton’s workshop in Asnières to its expansion of boutiques all over the world. With such an extensive scope, From Louis to Vuitton spans 406 pages and is filled with 320 images. The book is also categorised based on 54 selected words that act as themes such as “Monogram”, “Architecture” and “Leather(s)”—the number nods to the year that the Maison was founded, 1954.

From Louis to Vuitton is almost poetic. It captures the story of how a single man started a trunk-making company that evolved over the decades to become recognisable by its singular last name alone. And of course, how it’s become synonymous with luxury fashion across a host of different categories, thanks to the many artistic directors who have injected their individual brand of creativity into the Maison. Much like the creative breadth of the Maison, the book also reflects the same spirit. Housed in a Damier canvas slipcover, there is a limited-edition version that is designed with its very own trunk—a tribute to the Maison’s adventurous travel spirit.
