Esquire 10: The "Breakout" Edit

It’s difficult to stand out these days. The speed at which new designs are produced has led to fatigue and inattention. In this instalment of Esquire 10, we present the 10 that have managed to break out from ordinary row

1. Galaxy Ring in titanium gold, SAMSUNG

After smashing success with its smart watches, Samsung surges ahead in the wearable market with a smart ring. Coupled with advanced sensors and Samsung’s AI-powered health ecosystem, the Galaxy Ring makes sense as a wellness monitor: it’s unobtrusive, leaves your wrist free for that luxury watch to flex and still deliver cutting-edge health-tracking in an entirely new form.

2. Grand Soir eau de parfum, MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN

Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir isn’t a new fragrance by any means. It was launched back in 2016, inspired by Francis Kurkdjian’s love for Paris, and has since become one of the perfume house’s icons. The scent strikes with an amber woody headiness that serves as an invitation to get lost in the mysteries of a Parisian night. There’s an overall warmth that quickly envelopes like a warm fragrance blanket. In other words, irresistible.

3. Seamaster Diver 300m, 42mm bronze gold case with bronze gold bracelet, OMEGA

The Seamaster Diver 300m is as iconic as they come—you might recognise it as being on the wrists of some 007 agents. This special iteration utilises OMEGA’s exclusive Bronze Gold to full effect with a burgundy oxalic anodised aluminium bezel ring that brings out the material’s warmth. It’s easily one of the more breathtaking variations of the icon and one that’s definitely not just for your eyes only.

4. Loafers, GUCCI

There have been plenty of Horsebit loafers reimagined throughout the years, and now-former creative director Sabato De Sarno’s interpretations have been some of the more interesting ones. These particular Horsebit loafers may look like the original design but actually features a beautifully sculpted pointed toe that’s more obvious when looked at from the sides. It may be subtle but exudes a contemporary elegance worthy of its icon status.

5. Messenger bag, SAINT LAURENT

This Niki messenger bag was seen on K-pop idol (and former Esquire Singapore cover
star) TEN a few months ago during his time in Paris for the Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello menswear show, and that has brought to the fore this underrated bag design. Its small size hides a surprisingly roomy interior with multiple pockets, while its generous adjustable strap length easily offers versatility of wear.

6. Sunglasses, MAISON MARGIELA X GENTLE MONSTER

Forget about the four-stitched motif that has decorated temples of the Maison
Margiela x Gentle Monster collaboration pieces since the very first drop. The latest incarnation features a steam punk-esque design with unique, curved temple tips that feel a bit more true to Maison Margiela’s avant-garde aesthetic while remaining an easy accessory to style.

7. Folio 8, THE MACALLAN

Breaking from the ordinary, The Macallan releases the Folio 8, the latest in The Archival Series. Reviving the brand’s legendary 1980s advertising campaign, “The Colossus of Nose,” the Folio 8 is housed in a book-shaped box and the bottle is adorned in a natural terracotta hue with notes of golden sultanas, ripe dates, citrus zest, toffee, and warm spices.

8. Moccasin, LORO PIANA

Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that stand out. Loro Piana’s Anton Walk has evolved into the Anton Wave Walk moccasin that cuts a more streamlined and elevated profile as compared to the former. The wholecut design eschews unnecessary seams for a sleeker look perfect for matching with your roster of tailored pieces.

9. Rose Des Vents charms brooch in yellow gold, pink gold, diamonds, mother of pearl, tiger's eye and onyx, DIOR

Dior emblems take centrestage in this Rose Des Vents charms brooch that features a trio of some of Christian Dior’s most cherished symbols. Ornamental stones meet diamonds as they are set against a play of pink and yellow golds for a piece to finish any garment from T-shirts to crisp white shirts to the spiffiest of tuxedos.

10. Buckle bag, PRADA

The Prada Buckle bag is quickly becoming a signature design for the brand. This latest iteration amps up the belt piece with studs and metallic hardware for an edgier feel. Couple that with the distressed treatment applied, this has much more character than the original that you wouldn’t feel the need to be precious around it. Isn’t that the best thing?
