You know it by name, and you know it by its distinctive scent—nothing smells quite like Dior Sauvage. The fragrance first came onto the scene in 2015 and has since seen a number of different expressions ranging from the parfum variant to even the alcohol-free Sauvage eau Forte. Inspired by wide-open spaces, the Dior Sauvage scent is a combination of fresh and spicy notes with a musky base. It’s not too strong, yet lingers; it isn’t too passive such that it’s easily forgettable.
Of the many variations, the Sauvage eau de parfum remains very close to the original eau de toilette. Both were concocted by François Demachy and contains the ambroxan base note responsible for the musky, lingering dry down. Sauvage eau de parfum is additionally mixed in with more spice and warm notes courtesy of star anise and nutmeg for a more robust scent. A couple of Sauvage eau de parfum spritzes and you’re quite possibly set for the day.

The thing about fragrance is that it works best when there is depth. This is one of the reasons why you oftenfind extensions of some of the popular fragrances out there in the form of body cleansers, oils and the like. They’re typically designed to prolong the sillage of a fragrance or at the very least, enhance the luxuriating experience of wearing a fragrance. At Dior, however, they are crafted as actual skincare.
The Sauvage Mencare line stays true to the wild, liberated spirit of Dior Sauvage. Harnessing the power that is found in nature, the line taps into the properties of the cactus—the resilient plant known for regenerating at night in order to survive the desert’s harsh conditions. So serious is Dior’s belief in the natural efficacy of the cactus, that it unveiled its Cactus Garden in 2024, in the Spanish island of Lanzarote. Not only is the garden designated for cultivating cacti, it is also Dior’s first garden dedicated solely to men’s skincare. This is where cactus pads are handpicked and cultivated without the use of chemical inputs and with reduced watering.

The active ingredients extracted from the cactus pulp have been key in the formulation of the Sauvage Mencare suite of face and body products. And now, they are also used in the line’s first hair ritual products. The Hydrating Shampoo boasts the ability to ramp up hair softness by 22 per cent from the very first application, as well as reducing excess scalp sebum by 26 per cent. The Hair Serum on the other hand, has seen results that include a 28 per cent increase in hydration, 33 per cent increase in hair softness, and 25 per cent less hair fibre damage. Overall, both products are formulated to help soothe and nourish the hair and the scalp.
Yes, layering different fragrances together can be a way of creating your own unique scent profile. However, layering fragrances from the same line is a thing too (it might sound wild but we promise you it is potent) and makes complete sense if you’re already a Dior Sauvage devotee. Start with the body, then the face, followed by the hair, and finish off with the eau de parfum—each product offers a slightly different facet of the Sauvage fragrance universe, and together, they take you to a whole new
olfactory experience.

The Dior Sauvage hair care products as well as the Dior Sauvage eau de parfum are available at Dior Beauty boutiques and online.
