Private Practice with the New Dior Privé

Like the Dior salons back in the dav, the Dior Privé bag alludes to a time when luxury was experienced in private

The discussion about what constitutes a luxury product is an ongoing one. Is it the time-honoured craftsmanship behind it, and in turn, where it is made? Is it the distinct branding devices? Or could it be the reverse—something that is known to and enjoyed privately by the wearer or owner alone?

Unsurprisingly, the answers vary as widely as the spectrum of notions about what luxury even is. While there may be intuitive desire to delineate objects into categories, things are more nuanced when it comes to fashion. Dive into the annals of anthropology, and we might find that luxury fashion began as a playground of society's elites, where discrete details and personal preferences are what made anything special, and thus luxurious.

Dior Men's latest bag from its Fall 2025 collection nods to the more old-school idea of luxury—pre-democratisation of fashion when one could buy into the universe of a luxury fashion house by purchasing an entry-level trinket of sorts. It's named the Dior Privé bag, French for "private", and thankfully, one doesn't need to be an exclusive client in order to appreciate and own its suppleness. The Dior Privé bag is conceptualised as a utilitarian piece packaged as a sophisticated and minimalist tote bag devoid of hardware. The bag is crafted entirely from Dior Icons grained leather to produce a slouchy, supple appeal that highlights the material beautifully. The "Dior" signature is subtly embossed above two generously sized pockets.

But where is the private experience, you ask? The Dior Privé bag is lined with a suede calfskin that offers a luxurious touch privy only to the wearer. The lining is further decorated with the House's emblematic Dior Oblique motif. While it's not an unusual design element to have hidden in the interior—the motif has seen countless applications including the lining of ready-to-wear, bags and small leather goods—it's a clever way of keeping the experience of owning a Dior Men piece private.

The Dior Privé bag is a design that's not easily identifiable as a piece from a luxury fashion house. And that's the whole point. There are some things that are better left for personal enjoyment because…where's the joy of leaving it all out there in the open without an air of mystery? Perhaps, that is true luxury.
