The ultimate fan service event occurred this weekend at the House of the Mouse. Held at the Anaheim Convention Center, Disney fans saw future releases of Disney ventures presented by a host of performers and creators. We had a preview of projects from Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, 20th Century Fox, and it's a lot. Here are some of the releases that we are excited about.
The last time The Simpsons Movie came out was in 2007, so why not have another film of the longest-running cartoon franchise 30 years after it first came out? We don't know what the premise is, but the first film had Mr Burns erect an impenetrable dome around Springfield, maybe this sequel would have him put the entire world in a bubble. (Or maybe Kang and Kodos finally made themselves known to Earth and decided to attack it or something.)
Coming to theatres in March 2028, Pixar's Ghost Market is focused on hungry ghosts. Very interested in how they will present this, with the movie set in Hawaii. Will it be a mix of the Buddhist concept of preta and the Japanese's Obon? Will there be a showcase of the different categories of hungry ghosts like the "cauldron-body ghost" or the "vomit-eating ghost"? Also, how do you Disney-fy "hungry ghosts" given that they are spirits who are in a constant, unfulfilled state of craving?
Finally. Some updates on the next Kingdom Hearts game. After [SPOILERS ALERT] Sora disappeared after defeating Xehanort, we were wondering how Disney and SQUARE ENIX would continue the story. We get a glimpse of the new world (inspired by Coco) that Sora would inhabit.
This is... interesting. I guess, all 2D cartoons have to end up as 3D on the big screen. Is there anything lost in this 3D rendering of Bluey and Bingo? Movements and vibes are similar to what we see on Disney+. Hell, it could even been Joe Brumm's finest hour.
We didn't get a video preview, but director/producer Shawn Levy came out to the stage and invited the star, Ryan Gosling, to talk about the all-new theatrical adventure. Enjoy this black-and-white image of a morose Kade Auberon (played by Gosling) and his equally morose partner, played by Flynn Gray. Star Wars: Starfighter will come out on 27 May, 2027.
Rosario Dawson returns to the titular role for the second season. Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka confronts what it means to be a Jedi, while Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) is going to lay the beatdown on the New Republic. Also, it looks like the second season has 100 per cent more Ghost Anakin (Hayden Christensen).
There has been several set-ups of Marvel IPs that failed to see the light of day (my condolences Wonderman and Blade movie). Thank God that VisionQuest is finally seeing the light of day. As the conclusion of the planned trilogy (WandaVision and Agatha All Along being the other two instalments) of our favourite android.
Played by Paul Bettany, we will see the Vision come to terms with his existence and finally get that whole daddy issues sorted out, thanks to the return of his pater familias, Ultron, played by James Spader with such hirsute excellence.
Very strong casting choices. Especially with Kit Connor as Cyclops, Inde Navarette as Rogue, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Sadie Sink returns as Jean Grey (first appeared in Brand New Day). Adam Driver is in it as well and he will play Nathaniel Milbury; if that name doesn't sound familiar, you might know Milbury by his other nomenclature: Mister Sinister.
Here's a special look at Avengers: Doomsday, and this is the first time we get to see what Doctor Doom looks like. We can't wait, but it does raise some questions: if Doom is referred to as Victor in this film, how does that jive with the fact that he is played by Robert Downey Jr, who played Tony Stark in the previous Avengers movies? There's some multidimensional shenanigans afoot (of course there is; why else would the OG X-Men be included in the movie).
But the most important query is if he's gonna be referred to as Doom or Doctor Doom? If it's the latter, do you think it's only polite to include that title because of how hard and long he worked to get an MD or a PhD? Guess, we'll find out on 17 December...
