1. Alone on your laptop for the first time. You’d heard the film come up numerous times in pop culture, award shows and interviews. It’s time to see what the hype is all about.

2. Eight years later. You’re twenty-six now. You never admitted this, but you didn’t understand it the first time you saw it. That didn’t stop you from agreeing with the consensus, though. Maybe this time you’ll mean it.

3. A week later, again. Your theory paid off. How could you have overlooked this masterpiece; you just have to feel that same high once more.

4. With your partner. The feeling has grown too large to keep to yourself. You watch their face more than the screen, and frown when they tell you to keep it playing as they go to the washroom.

5. With your best friend. Your partner liked it, but not in the way you know your best friend would. He loved it, but walked away with a completely different interpretation of the ending. You’ve watched countless interviews and analyses—you try to convince him otherwise, but it's no use.

6. When your heart has been broken for the first time. You cry during scenes you never did before, and watch the credits roll longer than you ever have.

7. In the theatre. You see that Filmhouse is screening it for a limited time and wonder what it might feel like to watch it with a room full of strangers.

8. When you need to remember who you were. This is the longest you've gone without seeing it. You put it on late, after everyone’s asleep, with a glass in hand. You wonder when you started relating more to the authority figure in the film.

9. When your best friend passes. You curse him under your breath as you watch the credits roll for the ninth time. You finally understand why he saw the film differently from you did.

10. When you're older than everyone on screen. You didn’t see this one coming. You’re alone in front of your laptop for the last time—and you’ve never seen the ending so clearly.
