Whether it be a martini (shaken, not stirred) or a beer (in a cold Heineken bottle, thankyewverymuch) but, of course, a whisky (like The Macallan 50YO in Skyfall). Bond drinks like a fish in the Ian Fleming novels and he does it well in a tailored tux. I guess, he possessed a certain connoisseurly spirit, a sensibility that The Macallan captured with its latest limited-edition single malt: the Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release.

Created to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Diamonds Are Forever, the whisky celebrates the enduring cultural bond between the legendary distillery and the Bond universe. Following the brand’s previous tribute—The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release—this latest expression continues a creative partnership founded in craftsmanship, storytelling and a shared sense of intrigue.

Crafted by The Macallan whisky maker Russell Greig, the single malt is inspired by the film itself, in particular, Bond's discernment for sherry and claret. We have bespoke hybrid casks—crafted from sherry seasoned European and American oak, the latter that previously held red wine. Together, the casks create a whisky designed to reveal its character gradually—much like a espionage plot.

On the nose, we have oak, vanilla bean and rich dried fruits. On the palate, layers of caramel and cocoa-dusted truffles unfold before it yield to a fruit-driven complexity and a touch of nutmeg. The finish is long and refined, balancing bold depth with a surprising lightness.

Bottled at 45.5 ABV, you have the whisky’s natural hue of red and orange Aztec sandstone. Design-wise, the presentation case draws from a production artwork stored in the official Bond archives.

This edition adds to The Macallan’s long-standing relationship with cinema. Having appeared in more than 290 film and television productions over the years, the distillery cements its place in the cultural imagination alongside some of the screen’s most enduring characters.
