When Insomniac’s PS5-exclusive Wolverine game got leaked by a group of hackers in December of 2023, a bunch of in-game footage, character art, plot outlines, and much more were spilled online. Many worried the ramifications it would have on the game and its release date—surely a breach this severe would set the company back indefinitely.
But the speculation ends here: a brand-new trailer dropped during Sony’s State of Play while we were all soundly asleep, revealing gameplay, villains to expect, and—most importantly—a release window: Fall 2026.

The first thing that comes to mind when watching the trailer is how brutally visceral it is. We’re talking claws through skulls, severed limbs, bodies ripped apart, and blood dripping from Logan’s teeth to his beard.
It’s a far cry from the PG-13 combat of Insomniac’s Spider-Man series, and honestly, what a relief. Having a PG-13 rating would open the game to a wider audience (theoretically), but it’s refereshing to see them stay authentic to the raw savagery of the character. A watered-down Wolverine would never feel right.
Even the developers admit they wrestled with how far to push it. Project director Jess Reiner-Reed said in a gameplay overview: “That [Wolverine impaling someone’s face] I thought, maybe was going to be taking it too far, but I am so glad that we have it. It looks fantastic.”
Insomniac has made no secret of its ambition to expand Marvel’s roster beyond Spider-Man, with rumours swirling of a Venom spin-off. But for now, Wolverine leads the charge.
The trailer teases plenty of familiar X-Men lore. Logan squares off against Omega Red—the Russian mutant super-soldier with cybernetic tentacles—and encounters the shapeshifting Mystique, whose allegiance remains unclear. The final shot shows him facing down a towering Sentinel, the iconic mutant-hunting robot.
According to the overview, more recognisable characters will make appearances, and who knows—one of them could be next in line for the Insomniac treatment. But for now, it’s all eyes on Logan.
Marvel's Wolverine is expected to be released in Fall 2026 and will be exclusively available on the PlayStation 5.
