Set foot where time slows and landscapes defy the imagination—on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Madagascar with Beyond Limits 9. From towering sandstone canyons carved by millennia of wind and water, to sacred valleys steeped in Malagasy lore, every step of this trek offers a powerful connection to nature’s raw grandeur.
Occurring during 2-12 June 2025, a select group of 20 adventurers will embark on a life-changing expedition across the island. United by a shared mission, they aimed to raise over SGD50,000 to support Malagasy children’s education and their reintegration into the school system.
Over five days, trekkers will journey across nearly 60 kilometres of untouched, awe-inspiring terrain, venturing deep into the wild heart of Madagascar. This immersive expedition unfolds within the Makay Massif, one of the island’s most remote and ecologically significant regions. The Makay presents both a physical challenge and a visual spectacle, offering unparalleled access to some of the most pristine landscapes on Earth.
Participants will ascend to altitudes reaching up to 1,000 metres, navigating a dramatic terrain that shifts from dense tropical forests teeming with endemic species to arid plateaus and sweeping savannahs. This is not a path well-trodden. It’s a raw, rugged adventure designed to challenge body and spirit, all while awakening a profound appreciation for the island’s fragile natural beauty.
One of the most unforgettable moments comes at the Avenue of the Baobabs, where centuries-old trees stretch dramatically into the skies. The terrain is as diverse as it is challenging. From lush, untouched forests teeming with endemic flora and fauna, to sweeping open plains framed by ancient rock formations and river valleys that demand careful crossing.
Even though Madagascar is celebrated for its extraordinary biodiversity, it remains one of the poorest nations in the world. Behind its natural beauty lies a stark reality: widespread poverty, limited infrastructure, and a struggling education system.
For countless children, access to even the most basic schooling is far from guaranteed. With many facing barriers such as long travel distances, lack of resources, and the need to support their families from a young age.
Along the way, you’ll encounter Malagasy families whose children are directly benefiting from the educational support made possible through this initiative. Reminding you that each step, and every pound raised, helps fund community-led education programmes, from vital classroom materials to the construction of essential learning infrastructure.
In August 2024, Beyond Limits 9 founders, Scott and Kavita, were moved by the vision of their Malagasy guide to uplift children trapped in forced labour. Their initial contribution of SGD1,600 enabled 63 children to begin school in 2025 through the Mamiratra ho an’ny Ankizy Association—founded by their guide—planting the seeds for what would become Beyond Limits 9.
The association combats child exploitation through education, nutrition, medical aid, and family empowerment. Led by seasoned local guides and supported by a dedicated team, this trek is crafted for those with a bold spirit of adventure and a genuine drive to make a meaningful difference in the world.
By supporting Mamiratra or joining BL9, you help break the cycle of poverty; giving children a chance to learn, grow, and dream. With just 20 places available, this is a rare opportunity to journey through one of the world’s most captivating landscapes while making a lasting, tangible impact where it’s needed most.
