Two German brands are coming together for the first time this month, debuting a collaboration that fuses their aesthetics. RIMOWA and MYKITA have created a sleek collection of sunglasses built around classic shapes and premium UV-protective lenses.
We're sure you're already familiar with RIMOWA—the luxury brand that's evolved beyond being the originators of aluminium and polycarbonate for use in mainstream travel luggage. MYKITA is a Berlin-based eyewear brand founded in 2023 and is known for its innovative design, high-tech materials, and minimalist aesthetic.
"RIMOWA and MYKITA are two innovative German brands with deep technical expertise in their respective fields, both known for recognisable design features and innovative use of materials," says RIMOWA CEO Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert.
The RIMOWA x MYKITA collection consists of two series, each defined by the distinct design codes that echo the DNA of both brands. The HERITAGE series draws inspiration from classic silhouettes—think panto, aviator, and square styles—elevated through a mix of stainless steel and RIMOWA's signature use of anodised aluminium. The latter marks MYKITA's first time incorporating aluminium in its designs, used as rings (in silver or black) that are graphic design accents while also adding structural stability to each piece. The more futuristic-leaning VISOR series, on the other hand, is engineered for transit and tailored for taste. The sculptural silhouette is crafted from ultra-light stainless steel and paired with a toric lens shield that curves both horizontally and vertically to contour seamlessly to the face—a feat of optical engineering.
“This collaboration perfectly expresses the essence of ‘German design’—where innovation and aesthetics come from owning both engineering and manufacturing expertise,” says MYKITA founder and creative director Moritz Krueger. Handcrafted at the MYKITA HAUS in Berlin, the collection is a dialogue of craft and design between that and RIMOWA's Cologne headquarters.
Echoing the spirit of travel and the disruptive nature of both brands, the accompanying campaign for the collection is a casting coup of sorts featuring German actor Udo Kier and Luxembourgish-German actress Vicky Krieps. The all-too-familiar passport photo moment is turned into a playful meditation on identity, time and self-expression with the humorous, rule-breaking addition of the frames being allowed to be worn.
Price at SGD1,000 each for the HERITAGE series and SGD870 each for the VISOR, every piece is a worthy splurge for the savvy traveller who demands style and substance. And unlike a RIMOWA suitcase (but of course, the brand is more than travel pieces) a pair of sunglasses is one you'd be able to wear on the daily, no matter whether you're travelling to different countries or cities.
The RIMOWA x MYKITA collection is scheduled to launch on 10 April 2025 in RIMOWA boutiques islandwide, MYKITA stores as well as exclusive retail partners worldwide.
