I am the co-creator of Tiny For A Reason, which focuses on capturing the warm, tender magic of children through photography. For me, it’s about delving right into that precious moment of a kid learning to walk or their little toes meeting sea foam for the first time. When I’m not surrounded by kids (a task that’s proving to be challenging with my six-month-old daughter, Emmanuelle), I’m snapping away at weddings, working on portraiture projects, or trawling through my film photography archives.
In this April ‘AI’ issue, I wanted to present a thought- provoking series that encapsulates the raw innocence of children and challenges the place that technology has in their lives. Technology and the advancement of AI can be in and of themselves brilliant things. FaceTime, Skype and ride-sharing apps are enriching facets of modern-day living.
But just like anything in this world, if not used wisely, they can cause great harm and have lasting negative effects. We’re starting to see the implications of a society where technology is becoming increasingly integrated into our daily lives and it isn’t always favourable. There’s certainly vast room for improvement and a need for change. These photos strip away the noise and bring into focus seven uniquely delightful children. They are our future.
Their young minds inevitably have to navigate the consequences of the decisions our generation makes. Technology is one piece of the puzzle that we’ll be passing down to them, but it doesn’t stop there. It’s a sobering thought to realise that it’s our turn to make that change, but it’s also deeply empowering and full of unrealised potential. Herein lies the opportunity to create a legacy worthy of these precious humans and leave an inheritance to our future generations.
What will yours be?
