Patriotism is cool my books, especially for a country that's worthy of it. So upon learning that a well-loved, iconic landmark has been bestowed the title of #1 Hotel in Singapore, I couldn't be more proud. Raffles Hotel also ranks within the Top 10 Asia City Hotels category and Top 100 Hotels Overall.
Accolades aside, what's amazing is that its architecture is perfectly preserved, both inside and out. With the recent en-bloc of historic sites, it's hard not to worry that this was going to be another gem lost. I recall walking amidst white marble colonnades, awed that the quiet ivory exterior holds more than a hundred expansive suites within its walls.
Thankfully, the hotel is retaining its charm and illustrious history through a careful restoration project. Now in the third and final phase, the 131 year old hotel is slated to reopen towards the end of the year. I look forward to reseeing its classic, modern colonial design and the prevailing of its national legacy.
