Here’s a cardinal style rule from legendary designer, Sir Hardy Amies, that’s worth remembering:
“A man should look as if he’s bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care, and then forgotten all about them.”
Solid. But why should style stop at what we wear? Our bachelor pads should be an extension of our style repertoire too. And, in the spirit of Amies’ fashion adage, it’s all about purchasing key homeware items, positioning them with care, and then just enjoying them—not giving a flying toss if the cushions are not perfectly positioned on the sofa, or if the coffee table has shifted.
Take it from luxury houses Armani, Hermès and Fendi—as well as new kids on the block: Raf Simons at Calvin Klein, Jonathan Anderson at Loewe, and Alessandro Michele at Gucci. Homewares is increasingly an extension of their design aesthetic; it’s not just about what they show on the runway. Even Virgil Abloh and Craig Green each have their own collaborations with Swedish furniture giant IKEA dropping this year.
Online fashion portal, MATCHESFASHION.COM, has now responded to this design extension—and subsequent shift in consumer buying behaviour—by expanding their offering to include exclusive stylish homewares from our favourite designers.
“Our customers love to discover and learn about new designers, about the provenance of the clothes they buy and to understand the story behind the brand. We wanted to offer the same sense of discovery with homeware and offer an edit that showcases beautiful craftsmanship which also has a longevity that resonates, as it’s not seasonal or trend driven. These are pieces that the customer can love and keep forever,” explains MATCHESFASHION.COM’s Fashion & Buying Director Natalie Kingham. “By approaching homeware in the same way we look at fashion it becomes a broader lifestyle concept, with a focus on creativity and artisanal designs, allowing many of the brilliant designers we work with to show their passion for interior design.”
