Dries Van Noten is one of those brands that seem to constantly be bubbling under the mainstream consciousness. It's not as popular (or easily available) as luxury fashion brands like Lanvin and Maison Margiela, yet not quite as obscure as Haider Ackermann or Sunnei. You'd be able to find a collection of Dries Van Noten's ready-to-wear pieces in certain luxury department stores in fashion capitals, a smattering of standalone boutiques the world over, as well as on a selection of online platforms. But it's a brand that you'd have to actively look out for. Yet, this hasn't stopped the Belgian brand from amassing a strong following of fans who fawn over his creations.
Van Noten's designs are not only wearable off the runway, but his deft use of colours and prints is what he's loved for.
Luke Stephenson's An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds provided the inspiration for his spring/summer 2019 womenswear collection. The British photographer's portraits of birds that were simply shot on a wooden bird stand against a complementary coloured background, was referenced by Van Noten and translated in the way he used colours, materials and silhouettes for the collection.
Dries Van Noten will release a more literal interpretation of the Stephenson's work in an exclusive limited-edition capsule collection. A selection of four bird portraits have been chosen to be printed on white unisex shirts that are trimmed with printed coloured feathers at the sleeves. These shirts are only available in four different stockists around the world—Barneys in New York, Joyce in Hong Kong, Liberty London in London, and Singapore's standalone Dries Van Noten boutique in Hilton Hotel.

Luke Stephenson The images from an Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds have been an inspiration for the women Spring Summer 2019 collection. An Incomplete Dictionary of Show Birds began with a very simple idea, Luke Stephenson wanted to photograph budgies and met a great deal of people (mostly men) who were very knowledgeable about their hobby and only too happy to share it with him. Their enthusiasm became infectious so that by simply photographing a species Luke felt he was adding it to his collection. For the Spring Summer 2019 women’s collection Luke made a new series of four photographs. These images are printed on a limited edition of shirts that are exclusively available with four of our partners. Barneys – New York Club 21 – Singapore Joyce – Hong Kong Liberty – London . #driesvannoten #dvn #womenswear #ss19 #birds #showbirds #lukestephenson @stephenson_luke @barneysny @club21 @joycehk @libertylondon
With exclusivity, comes a pretty hefty price tag too. Each shirt will set you back SGD1,090. But factor in the fact that it's a limited-edition piece that's only available in four places, features an artwork by an award-winning photographer, and is in collaboration with Dries Van Noten, the shirt is a piece worth collecting.
The limited-edition unisex Dries Van Noten and Luke Stephenson shirts are exclusively available at Dries Van Noten's boutique in Hilton Hotel from 12 April 2019.
