Those words are printed on a lilac card that sits on my desk; propped up between a hand-painted tile (that I bought from an artisan in Barcelona) and a Supreme metal toolbox (a gift from a friend in New York, and where I store all my taxi receipts). Am I a supporter of the local arts or am I a sold-out Hype Beaster? Neither. Both. Somewhere in-between. But who cares: you are wrapped in endless, boundless grace.
It’s a quote from our contributing poet, Morgan Harper Nichols. But before she became a friend and writer for Esquire Singapore, she was just a name on that lilac card. My mate, Aletheia Sim, sent it to me as part of my online order from her apothecary brand, Mmerci Encore, and inexorably, I had to seek her out. Today, her words—inspired by faith, infused with hope—serve as my daily reminder when the deadlines loom, the stories pile and the schedule explodes: you are wrapped in endless, boundless grace.
For this month’s ‘man in the mirror’ issue, we have approached our stories with a self-reflective tone: what has our subject learned? What is their life truth? What do they tell themselves in the mirror? And in that spirit, I have asked our editorial team the very same. See what they have to share below. As for me, it’s that sweet comfort: you are wrapped in endless, boundless grace.
