Baltimore-born Tay James' profession to be disc jockey isn't by accident. At the age of 12, he received his first turntables from his parents and used that to hone his scratching skills while entertaining the college crowd. James' claim to fame began when he was approached to play for Bow Wow’s birthday party on MTV, and even had the honour to spin at Barack Obama’s first inauguration party in Washington, D.C.
These accumulated experiences and having a reputation as the most-in-demand DJ in the mid-Atlantic eventually caught the attention of Justin Bieber's management team who linked James up to be the Canadian pop star's official concert DJ after graduating from Hamptons University in 2009.
Being associated with Bieber isn't a bad thing. During these eight years as his trusted tour companion, James was roped in to worked on Bieber's Grammy-nominated album, Purpose, and scored co-production credits on 'Trust'. Besides hitting the recording studio, James explored other ventures and projects such as apparel collaboration with Diamond Supply called We Know the DJ. Its name was taken from James' longtime blog that offers behind-the-scenes insight of touring DJs which include Wiz Khalifa’s DJ, DJ Bonics, and Big Sean’s DJ, DJ Mo Beatz.
On 29 March, James will be gracing our shores for a DJ set sponsored by Johnnie Walker at Bar Rouge that'll showcase his impeccable prowess of mashing hip-hop, rap, soul, and electronic akin to his other club residencies at Playhouse (Los Angeles), FLUXX (SanDiego), Muzik (Toronto),and Prive (Atlanta).
