Every Wednesday we ask a creative or an artisan to share what music gets them going from dawn to dusk. This week, we got Chef David Myers out of Adrift Bar and Lounge at Marina Bay Sands Singapore to share his soundtrack for the day.
Myers, the ‘gypsy’ chef from Boston, opened this California izakaya-style restaurant three years ago and has satisfied appetites since. What’s his secret? You’ll find out when you join Adrift’s themed masterclasses—showcasing Japanese ingredients and techniques combined with Myers’ signature Californian flair. So keep your eyes glued to the contemporary gastro joint’s social platforms for updates.
“I like to listen to classical music in the morning. It’s relaxing for me, I love Andrew Manze and Tartini—The Devil’s Sonata. That track is wholely violin and it’s quite beautiful. I also like to listen to Yo-Yo Ma playing Bach on cello sonatas. They are also peaceful and chill. And sometimes I’d listen to Tibetan singing bells. The sound it produces is calm and that is a great way for me to start the day.”

2. ‘Unaccompanied Cello Suite No.1 in G Major, BWV 1007. I: Prelude’—Yo-Yo Ma, Johann Sebastian Bach
3. ‘Unaccompanied Cello Suite No.1 in G Major, BWV 1007. II: Allemande’—Yo-Yo Ma. Johann Sebastian Bach
“The Adrift playlist is on when I’m on the grind. On that playlist, there’s Fleetwood Mac with ‘Gypsy’ and Post Malone with ‘rockstar’, which we love. By the way, diners love our playlist and follow it too. Another great song I love is ‘When I’m Small’ by Phantogram.”

“I listen to jazz after the sun goes down. So I got a record player, and I’ve been buying a lot of vinyl records to listen to. Coincidentally, I opened a new bar in Dubai and the Esquire Dubai team covered it. The player only spins vinyl records so jazz is the sole genre I listen to at night. I love the vibe exudes from late-night jazz.”
“Aside from jazz, I listen to Post Malone at night—White Iverson’s a great song. Back to jazz, I’m into ‘I love I’m a fool to want you’ by Donald Byrd and tunes by Dexter Gordon right now. I’m really into [Dexter Gordon’s] music and there’s an album I always listen to whenever I travel by air by the way. I don’t know if you listen to Dexter Gordon at all but he’s fantastic. The song, ‘Darn That Dream’, is on his ballads album and I love its cool imagery.”
