Unfamiliar with Tim? Where have you been, dude? The musician performed at two major music events this year—St Jerome’s Laneway Festival and Singapore International Jazz Festival. That’s a feat. Tim’s latest single, ‘Dreams’, was described as a love song about longing but also about a strong sense of love that permeates all modes of existence.
"Dreams", is a love song I wrote about experiencing the subject of my love crossing planes from real life into my dreams. It's a song about longing but also about a strong sense of love that permeates all modes of existence. It's also a pledge to always find her, no matter how far we get pushed from one another. With a debut album which contains guest vocals from a ‘Dawn to Dusk’ alumni, weish, Tim has since built a neo-soul sound that’s unique in the local music scene. Keep your eyes peeled for his next live gig on his Facebook page if you want to catch some smooth groove in the flesh.

“I like to start my day right with songs that perk me up and give me hope; songs that have a rich melody or a passionate message, coupled with beats based in funk, hip-hop or Afrobeat. It’s just the perfect way to feel good. And this starts my day off on a positive note.”
“‘On a Day Like Today’ gradually moves into itself, and it’s the perfect song to get my engines started, and focused on the day at hand. ‘Sticking to My Guns’ is a song that reminds me of my passion in my chosen career in music, and pumps me up to tackle a new day of opportunity that will occur if I stick to my guns. ‘My People’ is a rallying song that makes me remember that I’m not in it alone; that life is a community song and you just need to “step to”.”

“Day-time is normally when the slump hits me with the heat and the need for coffee. So I tend to gravitate to songs that pick me up and are like sonic caffeine to me. These 3 songs are just some of the songs that make me smile when the food coma threatens to derail me. Haha!”
“‘Heart Don’t Stand a Chance’ fills me with a sense of cool and calm swag; just to kind of remember to be confident and that “I got this”. ‘Happy Feet’ is like the shot of caffeine that I need when I need to power through whatever it is I’m working on, as it literally makes me feel compelled to move. ‘By Fire’ is just an amazingly arranged, high-energy song that brings me on a trip through Nai Palm’s lush poetry and the band’s crazy instrumentation (although it’s lyrics are heavy, it is also about “rises from the ashes” despite being razed to the ground.”
4. ‘Heart Don’t Stand A Chance’—Anderson .Paak
5. ‘Happy Feet’—Roosevelt Collier
6. ‘By Fire’—Hiatus Kaiyote
“Night comes and I just wanna chill and catch up with friends and loved ones, or just reflect on the day with a relaxed vibe. These songs fill me with a peaceful purpose. No matter how my day has gone, I don’t beat myself too much about it and just take a chill pill with songs like these three.”
“‘Poetry’ is an all-around vibe and chill song, that focuses on the music in every possible way. Q-tip’s verse just sets the right vibe for me at the end of any day. Erykah Badu then comforts me at the end saying, “I’ll show you which way to go”.”
“‘Till it’s Done (Tutu)’ reminds me of my place in the world and how the bigger picture is really important, and how I can’t rest till it’s done, although it soothes me with purpose at the end of the day, remembering why I do what I do.”
“‘Think Twice’ is just a nice playful song by one of my favourite music/producer inspirations ever, J Dilla, that just gets me in a good vibration, with a slight smile on my face; perfect for ending the day.”
